The Eagle of York St. John College
In 1953 an application made by Principal Canon Lamb for a crest for St. John’s College was approved by the College of Heralds. The crest shows the eagle of St. John the Evangelist as well as the cross keys of the Arch Diocese of York. The motto underneath the crest reads Ut Vitam Habeant et Abundantius – that they may have life and have it more abundantly and is based on St. John Chapter 10 Verse10. The eagle now displayed in the new Heritage Room is the only one remaining of three cast in fibre glass that were displayed at Lord Mayor’s Walk for many years.
